Non-linear video editing is a non-destructive process in which the original file is preserved. Vidiot is a free open-source non linear program for editing video files. It allows you to trim, copy, paste, add transitions, and more.
The program also includes a wizard to create new projects. Once you start the program and select the New option, the wizard will appear, asking you to select a folder containing video files, or to choose individual files. Once you have done that, you can set the video frame rate, as well as the height and width of the image, and the audio sample rate and channels. The chosen files will appear on the left panel. When you double click on any of them, a thumbnail will appear on the right panel. On the lower panel, the time line of the file will appear. If you click on the thumbnail image of this panel, the characteristics of the file will appear on the center panel. There, you can modify the files' parameters, such as speed, opacity level, scaling, audio volume and balance, and so on. On the lower panel, you can cut, add, copy and paste files or clips by using the cursor. The program also can be used via keyboard commands.
An advantage of the program is that it does not need to be installed. You can run it from a USB or other portable storage device by simply clicking on the vidiot.exe file in the compressed file. This makes it very convenient. more
